Wonkette interview

I admit it. I'm a Wonkette junkie. Here is a look inside the lady behind the blog.

Kyoto News

According to Andrei Illarionov, Economic Advisor to Putin:
"Like fascism and communism, Kyotoism is an attack on basic human freedoms behind a smokescreen of propaganda. Like those ideologies of human hatred, it will be exposed and defeated."

The Star and Sanity

You know it's time to stop bashing Bush, when the Toronto Star publishes a column saying Canadians are making fools out of themselves.

Parrish's Riding

So apparently the people in Mississauga are divided over whether their MP is a bigot, an idiot, both, or neither.

Here is how the vote went in 2004.

Hmm..

Can you believe how much the US is missing out by not having French competence in the coalition of the willing.

AIDS, Alcoholism, or Both?

The The Daily Telegraph is reporting that Cirrhosis of the liver 'killed Arafat'. This is a result of alcoholism. Others have reported it was AIDS.

I don't see how the two are mutually exclusive.

Here it is officially

She is gone. It's on TV. It can't be undone now. Thank goodness.

The media has been more than fair to this wacko. The fact that the Conservative candidate in her riding in the last election could not do a better job pointing this out is a shame.

Read it Here First

Carolyn Parrish has been kicked out of the Liberal caucus. (no Bourque, no Neale, but here first.)

Finally Foxed!

Fox News is coming to Canada. This is great news. A while ago a well known Israeli politician told a group of us that Fox News was the only balanced network in North America. So it's great that it's here.

Scott Ritter

Scott Ritter, the anti-Bush UN weapons inspector who was charged with trying to get underage girls to have sex with him is now working for Al-Jazeera. (HatTip:Daifallah)

Ronald Reagan in Ottawa

In light of President Bush's upcoming visit to Canada, I thought this video would be an appropriate post. Here is Ronald Reagan's speech to the House of Commons. He remains my favourite orator and politician.

May he rest in peace.

Trouble?

David Mader who knows about these things thinks there is something up. This only makes me wish I knew more about military matters. Better pick up the latest issue of Jane.

Israel

So I just finished an hour long argument regarding Israel with two friends here at Queen's. I am often shocked about world opinions on Israel. (Note: one friend is a Norwegian National and the other is an uber-liberal.)

It seems to me that the main argument from these two informed people was that since the Jews were displaced from Israel many years ago they no longer have a right to the land. That seems like an arbitrary way to decide things. For example, if Israel continues to exist as it is for another 100 years, can the argument be flipped to say because the Arabs were displaced so many years ago from the legally occupied, disputed territories they no longer have a right to the land? I would argue that the Arabs lost their right to the land when the lost it in a war. (Not to even go into the biblical/historical argument)

In any case, this whole "time" discussion is a bit silly.

Scary People

People like Warren Kinsella scare me. Not becuase they are liberals, but becuase they keep careful records of everything. (I know conservatives who do the same thing.) [On Warren's blog, scroll down to Nov. 16 post]

I say, if you know someone who keeps record of all emails, memos, and the sort, then you know someone who you don't want to annoy. Forget the dead skeletons in the closet. We all ought to worry about the dead skeletons in someone’s Outlook or the newly searchable and forever achievable Gmail.

Why Sam Walton's Company wins!

This latest merger is a bad idea. It seems as though K-Mart and Sears just don't want to learn.

They are still living in the pre-Sam Walton era. Wal-Mart wins, not because its huge, it wins because it is a company that delivers value to its customers through an unbelievably efficient inventory control model. Wal-Mart's value chain is literally unmatched. It buys only from suppliers that give it exactly what it wants, it delivers the stuff to the stores at exactly the right time, and clears it in exactly the right order. Because of this it has managed to kick start the business world's longest lasting productivity cycle. (a la Ken Wong)

Wal-Mart is big because it is good. Not the other way around.

On the other hand, K-Mart is just a poorly run company who by all measures should have gone bankrupt by now.

Even if all of this wasn't true and size was a good tactical advantage, being third doesn't count. The size triangle (BCG I think) shows that you get an advantage by being either first or second.

So you read it here first: this K-Mart/Sears deal is just a lot of hoopla that will do nothing to help the shareholders of these companies.

Fortuyn voted greatest Dutchman

I am not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, this guy was a national hero pushing for lower taxes. On the other, he seemd like a bit of a racist meglomaniac. I am still voting for Don Cherry.

This is turning out to be a great day.

Condi Rice is the new boss at Foggy Bottom.

This is great news. Now we can only hope that she can use this spot to run for the GOP nomination in 2008.

Yes!

Thank goodness. Powell has finally resigned. More on this as soon as I leave my Business and Government Class.

Not Sorry

In response to the people at SorryEverybody.com a few conservatives have created this website.

Good on them.

On Life

This is rather interesting- especially since it is coming from a Harvard student.

I'm not sure if I agree entirely. After all, there are certain things that ought to be guaranteed by the constitution. One of those things is a basic right to life. If, then, it is established that a baby is a human being even if he or she is unborn, then how can anyone justify allowing some states to rule otherwise?

This is one issue that I'm not sure "asymmetric federalism" can solve.

Money and PLO/PA

According to this, there is a battle over how Arafat's money should be divided. Yet, another surprise!

Surprise!

Is this really surprising?
